Altair is delighted to announce that existing Altair Partner Alliance (APA) member Lambda Research Corporation is bringing a new technology to the APA: OSLO®. OSLO is a leading lens design tool that combines advanced ray tracing, analysis, and optimization methods with an easy-to-use, high-speed, internal compiled language to solve a variety of new problems in optical design. OSLO works in tandem with Lambda Research’s TracePro software (also available in the APA) to provide a complete, comprehensive design environment.

OSLO was designed with the needs of optical designers and engineers in mind. With OSLO, designers have significant freedom to define and constrain systems with its open architecture to design the system they need and the way they want. OSLO also has an excellent heritage and has been used longer than most of its competitors to design and engineer manufacturable optical systems with refractive, reflective, diffractive, gradient index, aspheric, and freeform optics. Its superior raytracing, analysis, and solid foundation in accurate physics modeling has made it a valuable tool that has been widely used to check the accuracy of other programs. OSLO includes multiple local and global optimization and search methods along with many optimization targets to help refine and tune designs for maximum quality.

Within the APA, OSLO will join Lambda Research’s other current offerings:

• TracePro®: A tool that combines Monte Carlo ray tracing, analysis, CAD import/export, and optimization methods with a complete and robust macro language to solve a wide variety of problems in illumination design and optical analysis.
• RayViz™: An add-In for SolidWorks for visualizing light rays and ray paths. RayViz is fully integrated in SolidWorks and allows SolidWorks users to work in a familiar environment while giving them the added capability of assigning optical properties and raytracing directly in SolidWorks.
