Coupled DEM-CFD Simulation Increases Crop Yield by Optimising Seed Placement

Jan Bruns, Calculation Engineer at Amazonen-Werke H presents at the 2024 ATCx DEM.

In agriculture, increasing efficiency is essential in order to feed the world's growing population. In addition to the quality of the seed and the soil, the precision of agricultural machinery is also an important factor for a high-yield harvest. In farming, yields can be positively influenced by the use of precision seed drills.

A coupled DEM-CFD model was set up to drive forward the development of seed drills at Amazone and make them more efficient. This model is intended to optimize the transport of seed within the machine and thus increase the benefits for the farmer.
