Discrete Element Method to Analyze Segregation in Cone Crushers

Discrete Element Method to Analyze Segregation in Cone Crushers

Abdullah Chibli, CAE Engineer at Sandvik presents at the 2024 ATCx DEM.

Segregation is one of the potential consequences of poor feeding conditions. Segregation occurs due to multiple reasons but primely caused by bad positioning of the conveyor belt or when coarse and fine particles accumulate on different sides of the conveyor. Poor feeding decreases the crusher performance, liner life and the life of mechanical components, so it is crucial that one can identify and deal with the problems. In general terms, the goal is evenly distributed, non-segregated feed. Using Altair EDEM allows us to study the material flow in the crusher, deepen the knowledge of segregation and study different feeding solutions.
