Enhancing Safety on Critical Assets: Simulations & AI Combined Efficiently

For Ametek-Land, installations of their specialised thermal imaging systems, which operate in the extreme environments of industrial furnaces, requires careful calculation of the cooling flows required to prevent damage to their hardware.

Challenges arise when customers cannot provide the specified cooling flow rates: testing is expensive and real world data is hard to come by, but it can be simulated with CFD. However, maintaining a skilled CFD analyst on the team and a subscription to a CFD solver is a prohibitive cost. Answers are often also needed quickly during an active installation.

This presentation will show how these challenges were overcome by training an AI model using CFD simulations which ultimately provided Ametek-Land with a tool to predict the required cooling flows instantly without resorting to tests or simulation.
