Forming Defect Prediction and Die Design Improvement for an Automotive Rail Part

Forming Defect Prediction and Die Design Improvement for an Automotive Rail Part

Based on safety considerations, the automotive sheet metal parts dictate that high-strength steel is the primary material. However, high-strength steel often results in springback and wrinkling defects during stamping. This case study proposes the die design and process parameter improvements for a specific automotive sheet metal component to improve the material flow and reduce springback and wrinkling defects. The study uses the Altair Inspire Form for the blank shape design, forming analysis, and forming defect prediction.

Presented at Altair's 2024 Simulate at the Speed of Design by Dr. Cheng-Hsien Yu, National Kaohsiung University of Science & Technology.
