Leveraging Cast Steel Connections in Steel-Timber Hybrid Constructions

Steel casting manufacturing offers freeform capabilities that allow structural designers the freedom to elegantly address the flow of forces through a joint, leading to high performing and visually impressive connections. When married with mass timber, cast steel connections can complement the aesthetics of exposed timber, enhance constructability, and minimize overall labor and material cost, supporting the goal of carbon reduction. This presentation will use project case studies to elucidate these points, following the projects from concept design through engineering and construction.
