What’s New in Altair® EDEM™ 2026?

Altair® EDEM™ is high-performance software that is used to simulate and analyze the behavior of bulk and granular materials. It provides engineers with crucial insight into how these materials interact with equipment during a range of operating conditions and is used for both virtual testing of equipment design as well as process optimization.

Powered by the Discrete Element Method (DEM), EDEM quickly and accurately simulates the behavior of rocks, soils, gravel, grains, tablets, and powders. It is used globally in all industries that handle or process these materials, including automotive, batteries, aerospace and defense, heavy equipment, agriculture, mining and metals, pharmaceutical, and process manufacturing. EDEM can be used stand-alone or combined with other Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) tools.

EDEM continues to prove its market leadership by setting the industry standard for DEM. Now more powerful and user-friendly than ever, EDEM 2026 showcases its commitment to advancing optimization and simulation-driven design by delivering new key features for physics modeling and customization.

With this latest release, EDEM introduces particle shape distribution with an innovative method to vary the shape of particles so that the true behavior can be better captured.

The EDEM coupling interface is now available to use with Python. This opens up possibilities for our customers to add more automation and customization in EDEM when integrating with Multiphysics & AI.
