Altair’s Momentum in Data Analytics is Unmatched – and Growing

By Yeshwant Mummaneni | Chief Engineer of Analytics, HPC, and Altair One | October 23, 2024

It gives me great satisfaction to reflect on Altair’s recent momentum in the data analytics space. Despite a rapidly changing market, the ongoing emergence of new technologies, and the normal ebbs and flows of business, Altair has built an intuitive, end-to-end data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) platform without equal in Altair® RapidMiner®. It is a comprehensive enterprise-scale platform continuing to gain new capabilities and technologies every day. Both our customers and the broader market are now aware of the power, flexibility, and value of Altair’s data analytics offering.

In February, Jim Scapa, our chief executive officer, wrote: “Irrespective of how many times markets change, Altair stands ready to meet any challenge or market transformation by leveraging the computational intelligence legacy we’ve built around the globe. Altair gives all organizations the power to tackle their toughest data transformation and business intelligence challenges.” This truth has only become more powerful as the months have passed. Let’s explore Altair’s data analytics momentum in further detail.

Altair’s Acquisition of Cambridge Semantics

It is no secret that data is the foundation for countless organizations and a critical key to their success. That is why, earlier this year, Altair acquired Cambridge Semantics. Cambridge Semantics is a modern data fabric provider and creator of the leading analytical graph databases. Its graph-powered data fabric technology accelerates the creation of comprehensive enterprise knowledge graphs, integrating the complex web of structured and unstructured enterprise data together into a single simplified view. Founded in 2007 by an innovation and engineering team from IBM’s Advanced Technology Group, its team is one of the world’s largest collections of knowledge graph experts.

Cambridge Semantics’ knowledge graph capabilities bring a new dimension to the Altair RapidMiner platform. If you are not familiar with knowledge graphs and their capabilities: knowledge graphs help organizations maximize the value and insight they get from their data analytics and AI tools. They also eliminate data silos and provide data and AI applications with the needed context and nuance to generate more accurate, more relevant, and more sophisticated outputs.

As generative AI (genAI) has burst onto the scene within the past few years, knowledge graphs have taken a front and center priority. They combat the two weaknesses of large language models (LLMs): their static nature and inaccuracies. A knowledge graph is the best way to ground these machine learning and AI models in reality. With knowledge graphs, there is an order of magnitude improvement in the quality, accuracy, and relevancy of models’ responses because it gives them the complete context and understanding of the data used to make an output. You can learn all about what makes knowledge graphs special in this overview article.

From an overall perspective, integrating Cambridge Semantics’ knowledge graph capabilities into the Altair RapidMiner platform allows organizations to create a sturdy foundation for their advanced analytics ecosystems and help them make AI a catalyst in their day-to-day operations. It gives them the tools they need to create a true organizational data fabric – all within a single, unified, scalable, and easy-to-use platform that works with the investments they have already made in their data infrastructure. No uprooting needed.

Market-Wide Recognition: Named a Leader in the June 2024 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Data Science and Machine Learning Platforms

For a long time we have been excited about our data analytics offering. Our customers enjoy using our platform and its tools, and they enjoy working with our experts to solve their complex challenges. We take pride above all in being a superb partner for all our customers.

This year we were recognized by Gartner as a Leader in the June 2024 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Data Science and Machine Learning Platforms. Everyone in the data analytics space looks to organizations like Gartner to provide neutral, authoritative perspectives on the market’s offerings.

According to the report, “Leaders in this market have a mature, refined, and targeted company and platform strategy that incorporates and leverages generative AI (GenAI) to drive their customers’ business value. They see opportunities for leveraging GenAI that other providers may not see or have made significant investments above and beyond standard offerings. They have the capability to innovate at a speed that outperforms other vendors. In addition, they can clearly articulate how they provide value to the multiple types of personas involved in the process of building data science and machine learning models.”

As Sam Mahalingam, Altair’s chief technology officer, explained, “We believe being positioned as a Leader in the Magic Quadrant validates our hard work and confirms Altair's position as one of the world’s premier players in the data analytics field. Further, we feel the Gartner Magic Quadrant report only further validates what we and our customers already knew: Altair enables data analytics users of many different skill sets to foster digital data-driven transformation in a seamless, unified environment.”

I wholeheartedly agree with Sam’s assessment. I believe this recognition is extremely valuable for Altair and feel it is a direct reflection of our products, our technical capabilities, and our feature functionalities, both on the technical and non-technical side.

Continuing our Data Analytics Momentum

No other company in the data analytics space has made the kinds of leaps Altair has made within the past few years. We continue to refine and broaden our technology in a way that satisfies customers’ most pressing needs. And equally as important, we continue to grow the Altair RapidMiner platform – and the rest of our portfolio – in a way that is true to our core technology vision: open, democratized, intuitive, scalable, flexible, and cost-effective.

The Cambridge Semantics acquisition is just the latest in a long line of targeted, strategic acquisitions to strengthen our portfolio. This story we are crafting within our technology – one of seamless, scalable, flexible data and AI fabrics – is one of Altair’s most powerful differentiators. I am thrilled to see what the future has in store for both Altair and the thousands of customers we help around the globe.
