Dr. Christopher Borroni-Bird, Founder of Afreecar LLC discusses the limited utility, and high expense of current rural vehicle and power solutions in many parts of the developing world. Afreecar's plan is to retrofit existing non-motorized vehicles with an e-kit. This not only allows end-users to have better transport (faster, climbing hills, carrying more, longer range) but also provides them with electric power (lighting, chilling, charging cellphones, etc.) and mechanical power (pumping water, corn grinding, etc.). Together with innovative financing plans, this approach of adding functionality and reducing purchase cost has the potential to transform economic development for billions of people around the world.
The recording is almost 19 minutes long, and was presented at the 2020 Global Altair Technology conference.
