DEM Simulations for Optimizing Large-Scale Industrial Manufacturing Operation

DEM Simulations for Optimizing Large-Scale Industrial Manufacturing Operation

Dr. Sushil S. Shirsath, Senior Scientist at Aditya Birla Group (ABG) presents at the 2024 ATCx DEM.

In manufacturing operations, gaining a deeper understanding of the underlying physics is essential for optimizing processes, enhancing quality, and meeting customer requirements. Traditionally, phenomenology-based modeling tools, such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Discrete Element Method (DEM), are widely employed to achieve these objectives. These models have gained considerable acceptance and maturity across various manufacturing processes, enabling accurate predictions of process outcomes, identification of bottlenecks, and optimization of production parameters. The advantages of such optimizations, including cost savings, become even more significant in continuous manufacturing processes. This work will highlight the applications of these advanced tools in improving manufacturing process efficiency.
