Nowadays numerical noise and vibration prediction of electric motors is a ubiquitous task in the life of NVH engineers. Altair and Thyssenkrupp joined forces in order to optimize the mechanical NVH modeling procedure of electric motors, to find the optimum granularity of the FEM models that on the one hand well represents the most important dynamic behavior of various motor components - e.g. laminated stator stack, coils, and coil carriers, etc. – but on the other hand, avoids over modeling thus providing quick computations of modal parameters and frequency response functions. Furthermore, it has been shown using experimental modal analysis, that besides exact weight and geometrical parameters, experimental modal data and frequency response functions of the motor in each production step support and accelerate the model updating procedure significantly.
