Structural Modelling - A Foundation of the Intelligent Engine

Structural Modelling - A Foundation of the Intelligent Engine

Presentation by Carsten Buchholz, Project Engineer - Hybrid Electric Flight Demonstrator at Rolls Royce as part of Altair's Future.Industry 2024 conference.

Rolls Royce Civil Aerospace is a leading manufacturer of aero engines for the large commercial aircraft, regional jet and business aviation markets. The business uses its engineering expertise, in-depth knowledge and capabilities to provide through-life support solutions for its customers. Rolls-Royce is on the journey to Net Zero. We believe that success is depending on the efficiency of the products but as well the underlying engineering processes. The Intelligent Engine vision will be an enabler to integrate engineering design, manufacturing and in-service support into computer models of physical objects in virtual environments. While this goal is common across industries, product safety is an essential aspect in aviation design. Structural simulation therefore will play an increasingly strong role as a foundation of the Intelligent Engine. Especially, fast but very accurate predictive modelling for early robustness optimization is needed in combination with data science techniques to gain insights from large parameter spaces.
