In this presentation, Tony Gray, Technical Director of Simulation and Design Development at Altair, will discuss the challenges that engineers and designers face in meeting the demands of lightweighting, cost reduction, quality improvement, and increased manufacturing throughput. With the increasing adoption of additive manufacturing (AM), there is a growing potential to leverage topology optimization and design freedom to maximize weight saving opportunities. However, unlocking the full potential of AM can be challenging.
Gray will showcase real-life examples of how Altair's solutions can help to harness generative design, topology optimization, geometry creation, and manufacturability simulation to achieve optimal results. Using AI-based algorithms, engineers and designers can generate multiple AM design options based on user-specified constraints and then evaluate and optimize the options based on performance criteria such as strength, weight, and cost. The presentation will also explore how to optimize designs by simulating the build process for both SLM and BinderJet/Sintering processes, ensuring first-time print success by validating manufacturability and adjusting geometries, orientations, and supports.
Presented as part of Altair's 2023 Future.Industry conference.
